Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), formerly known as the Kwangju Institute of Science and Technology (K-JIST), is a leading research oriented institute of Korea located in Gwangju, South Korea. GIST was established by the South Korean government in 1993 as a research-oriented graduate school, and focuses on technology and education.

 

In 2005, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)  that will see an exchange of knowledge and expertise from scientists and researchers with the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST). according to the MoU, GIST agreed to accept students from any science schools of UMS, such as School of Science and Technology (SST) and the School of Engineering and Information Technology (SIET).

 

Other than facilitating the exchange of knowledge and expertise, the collaborative efforts in academic and research by both institutions also provide a platform for research collaboration. GIST and School of Science and Technology is actively involved in the UNU & GIST joint programme on Science and Technology for Sustainability 2008.
